Profile

A seasoned publishing professional with broad-based editorial experience, Susan Schwartz was a senior book acquisitions and hands-on line editor for more than 28 years. Before launching her independent editorial consulting business in 1998, she held staff positions at Doubleday, Facts On File, Grolier, NTC/Contemporary Publishing Group, and other publishing houses.

Her full-service editorial skills in project analysis, management, and consultation, as well as editorial development and line editing, have earned her a reputation as "the editor who can turn promising projects into published books." Among her corporate clients is Fortune Live Media, the Conference Division of Fortune magazine. For her individual authors, she has performed a variety of editorial tasks, including ghostwriting, proposal writing and analysis, manuscript line editing and analysis, and consulting. She recently completed editorial consultation on a mystery series by Jane K. Cleland, published by St. Martins Press (2006, 2007); a nonfiction book about 10 new rules for outliving heart disease by American Heart Association spokesperson Dr. Richard Stein, M.D., published by Newmarket Press (2006); a business book for entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses by Citigroup SVP Julie Garella, published by Kaplan Publishing (2007); and a nonfiction book for baby boomers about communicating with elderly parents and colleagues by David Solie, published by Prentice Hall Press (2004). She is currently editing and advising the authors of several novels, memoirs, and nonfiction books in her specialty areas.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Ms. Schwartz graduated from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, attended the Radcliffe Publishing Procedures Course, and currently lives on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
