Profile

Bonny V. Fetterman is a publishing professional best known for her work in Judaica. She began her editorial career at Basic Books and Harper & Row, moving on in 1982 to Schocken Books, where as senior acquisitions editor, she developed a complete publishing program including a critically acclaimed Yiddish series. She has edited classics by Agnon, Buber, and Scholem, as well as popular works such as I Never Saw Another Butterfly (U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum). Among the bestselling Judaica titles she acquired and published are: The Five Books of Moses by Everett Fox, Sefer Ha-Aggadah / The Book of Legends by Bialik and Ravnitzky, Jewish Meditation by Aryeh Kaplan, and Exploring Exodus by Nahum Sarna. She co-edited (with Harry James Cargas) an expanded edition of The Sunflower by Simon Wiesenthal and collaborated on anthologies such as The Schocken Book of Contemporary Jewish Fiction and The Schocken Guide to Jewish Books.

As a freelance editor and publishing consultant since 1998, she has worked directly with authors on numerous published books including Holocaust Justice by Michael J. Bazyler (NYU Press), After Emancipation by David Ellenson (HUC Press), and Permission to Believe by Samuel E. Karff (Abingdon Press). She is currently Literary Editor of Reform Judaism magazine, where she writes book reviews and feature articles.

A native New Yorker, Ms. Fetterman earned her B.A. in history from the University of Rochester and her M.A. in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University. She also studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. She is currently based in New York City.
